In the last week of January I decided to take on a self-imposed daily drawing project. I wanted to draw a new dessert each day for five days, mainly to blow the cobwebs out after struggling to get back into drawing following a holiday break. Needless to say it worked very well, and although it definitely had its stressful moments I was able to create some of my favourite illustrations during this week.
This cute one was from my first day working on the challenge. Strawberry flavoured desserts are my comfort subject for drawing, I really love the colours used to create them and think the berries look ever so cute! To make my first day extra fun I decided to illustrate a very sweet strawberry cheesecake, complete with whipped cream and a strawberry to garnish.
I’m really happy with the lighting in this one, in particular the shadow was the best I had to drawn to date. Shadows were always something I struggled with before but it felt like they finally clicked into place with this illustration and I’ve had a much easier time with them in the subsequent pieces!
