Here’s a sketchbook spread featuring some Bullfinch study sketches, I also doodled a particularly nice looking tree that’s near my home and some moon phases. I haven’t seen any Bullfinches yet while I’ve been birdwatching here in the Brecon Beacons but I hope I will have them visit the garden sometime this spring. I would occasionally spot them in our Wiltshire garden and it was always such a treat to see them and their lovely pink chests!
Llangorse Lake
After finishing my last landscape illustration with the blush sky (which can be seen here) I really wanted to create another with a similar aesthetic. For this one I sketched the lake edge and hills overlooking Llangorse Lake which can be found here in the Brecon Beacons, but I wanted to go for a light teal coloured sky this time.
I enjoy painting these skies because they’re a little challenging to get the balance of colour and texture right, but they still manage to be relaxing to create.
I quite like how this came out with the teal colour contrasting against the landscape sketch, and I’m particularly pleased with how the trees in the foreground turned out!
Song Thrush - Page of Cups
Back in January I managed to identify my first Song Thrush in the garden! I really loved watching this particularly one hop about the floor and presumably looking for food, the cream colour of the chest with the brown markings make them look very sweet!
Due to their renowned song I thought that it would make for an appropriate portrayal of the Page of Cups which is also known for creativity, so I decided to illustrate this one perched along the edge of a chalice.
